Anxiety is a normal human response, it describes those feelings of worry and fear that we feel particularly in relation to what might happen. All of us will have experienced anxiety at times in our life often at stressful events. However, feelings of anxiety can be overwhelming and persistent for some of us and begin to impact on our quality of life. Often the cause may not be obvious to the sufferer whilst for others the cause is very clear such as a traumatic event or a series of life stressors. Anxiety can be very distressing .

We can help in reducing anxiety. Hypnosis itself is very relaxing and calming and helps reduce feelings of anxiety. During consultation I will explain how the brain works in relation to feelings of anxiety and how we can work to overcome these feelings.

Panic attacks

A panic attack is a sudden and overwhelming fear response. It can happen at anytime day or night.   It will often come out of the blue. Panic attacks can be very frightening, you may feel your heart pounding, feel faint or feel like you are choking or unable to breathe properly. People may think they are going mad or having a heart attack or going to die.   Panic attacks may last between 5-20 minutes but can last longer.

It may be that panic attacks are part of depression or generalised anxiety or you may feel perfectly content and healthy.

Hypnotherapy can help reduce symptoms of panic by helping you gain confidence and take control.

Often we will hear the familiar comments,  “I’m stressed, I feel overwhelmed”.

Stress is normal though; it is what makes us get up in the morning to get to work on time! However, stress means different things to different people.   We all have different coping abilities, some of us cope with a multitude of stressors whilst some of us may feel overwhelmed when stressors build up, we are all different. When stress builds many of us may feel like the pressure is too much and this may lead on to symptoms such as feelings of anxiety, low mood or depression.

Hypnosis is relaxing and will help you to focus on managing and reducing feelings of stress.

Difficulties Sleeping

Good sleep is vital to our wellbeing and quality of life. Lack of sleep or poor sleep patterns can affect our mood and health.

There are many of us who may have difficulties in sleeping, it may be that we have trouble getting to sleep or perhaps waking up in the early hours and unable to get back to sleep, often because we are worrying and mulling over one thing or another.

Hypnotherapy can help you improve your sleeping. ( It is advisable to check with your doctor prior to hypnotherapy that there are no underlying medical reasons that may be affecting your sleeping )

Motivation is what makes us act and move towards a goal.  It’s the difference between sitting for hours slouched in front of the TV and getting up early to meet friends for a planned hike.  We all will have experienced lack of motivation at some point in our lives when we feel we just can’t be bothered as the effort seems too much, particularly if the goal is not clear or seems distant or seems just too hard to achieve.  Hypnotherapy can help you refocus, help you take action when it seems the hardest thing to do and stay motivated to get to where you want to be.

We will all experience a lack of confidence at some time in our lives.  Negative beliefs, thoughts and behaviours can all affect our confidence and its important to know that lack of self confidence is not your fault as there are many factors that play a role such as background and experiences.  Lack of confidence can really affect the our quality of life and when it becomes chronic we can really suffer,  feeling insecure and powerless.  Hypnotherapy can help you focus on your inner resources and strengths to build confidence.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

IBS is a common on going bowel disorder that affects the digestive system. It can be very distressing and cause a great deal of discomfort.

Symptoms include:

  • Diarrhoea
  • Constipation
  • Bloating
  • Abdominal cramps

Doctors do not fully understand the causes of IBS although stress and other factors/triggers such as certain foods can make it worse. Medicines can help relieve symptoms though there is no cure as yet.

Psychological therapies including hypnotherapy has been recommended by the NHS (UK) for on going symptoms .

Fears and Phobias

Many of us have fears and phobias and they can be very debilitating, stopping us from enjoying life to the full as we go out of our way to avoid those things we fear. Hypnotherapy can help resolve fears and phobias using effective techniques.

Stopping Smoking

Do you wish to stop smoking? Have you tried but just can’t quite do it. If you are committed to stopping smoking then Hypnotherapy can help. This is a single 2-hour session.
